A little more Lego

So I’ve been busy with my Lego again.

Here’s LEGO Daft Punk.

Here’s a LEGO version of the Butterfield Diet, starring Brian Butterfield (based on this sketch from The Peter Serafinowicz Show).

Brian was so kind as to make the photo his Twitter profile pic!

And finally here’s Mr Manchester himself, LEGO Tony Wilson. I came across this hair and head combo by mistake and just had to make him.

LEGO Lord of the Rings Celebrities

Warner Bros. were so pleased with my work creating minifigures to send to celebrities to promote the LEGO Batman 2 videogame, that they asked me to create even more for the LEGO Lord of the Rings game! Of course I was thrilled to take up the challenge again and received lots of free LotR sets so I could use the minifigure parts from them. Or to put it another way that would thrill the 8 year old me: Warner Bros. sent me free LEGO and paid me to play with it. It’s a tough life sometimes.

There’s plenty of photos of all the celebrities I made in my LEGO Creations gallery or on my Flickr.

I can’t wait for the next LEGO videogame to come out!

LEGO Shenanigans

I took the time recently to photograph some of my LEGO minifigure versions of characters from the TV show Supernatural and the hard as nails videogame Dark Souls, both firm favourites of mine. They are all official LEGO pieces apart from Castiel’s trench coat, I cheated a bit there, ssshhh!

There’s more photos of the individual figures in my Lego Creations Gallery or on my Tumblr or even my trusty old Flickr. Whatever pleases you.

LEGO Superhero Celebrities for LEGO Batman 2

A couple of months back, I was contacted by the PR company for LEGO Batman 2 and asked if I could create superhero versions of UK celebrities using only official LEGO parts to promote the launch of the game on June 22nd. Of course, I said I’d be thrilled to. The celebs I heard back from, the PR company and Warner Bros. were all thrilled with the results. Here are most of the mini-figures that I made.

Jonathan Ross and Jane Goldman

Simon Pegg

Peter Serafinowicz

Peter was so happy with his villainous mini-figure that he made it his Twitter icon and kindly @ mentioned me too.

Alan Carr

Ant & Dec

Fearne Cotton

Chris Moyles & the BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Team

I also built their recording studio.

KISS FM Radio Breakfast Team

This is Melvin, Charlie and Rickie. In the end the radio studio set was sent to these guys instead and they seemed really happy with it even going as far to pose as their LEGO selves:

Loose Women

From L-R: Carol Vorderman, Denise Welch, Janet Street-Porter and Andrea McLean. I never thought I’d be paid to make a LEGO Superhero Janet Street-Porter.

It was a lot of fun to make these and come up with different Superhero costumes without using any Batman, Superman or Marvel LEGO. Needless to say I’m nearly out of tiny capes.

Cadwell’s Thought Bubble Lego Hunt!

In my pre-Thought Bubble blog post I mentioned that I would be holding a Lego Hunt where people had to search the show for 10 Lego versions of comic creators. The hunt went down really well with over 20 people claiming the prize pack of comics, a print and badges. Seeing groups of kids running toward my table waving their camera phones aloft brought me many a smile throughout the weekend.

I didn’t get chance to photograph them all before the show so I’ve collected photos from the day by eager Lego hunters to present all 10 comic creators in their Lego minifigure incarnations:

LEGO Shortlist

Back in January I was thrilled to have my Lego Mad Men featured on Shortlist Magazine’s website. Not long after, the guys there told me the feature had gone down really well and they’d like to commission me to see what else I could do with my minifigure collection. Perhaps recreate some of their covers in Lego? Okay!

I’ve recreated 7 of their past covers using only official Lego minifigures featuring the “uncanny” likenesses of Simon Pegg, Richard Branson, John Hamm, Martin Scorsese, Christian Bale, Paul McCartney and (the one I’m most pleased with) Jimi Hendrix.

See them all over on Shortlist.com, where they say very nice things about me (cheers, guys!) and there’s some extra photos in this Flickr set too.

LEGO Ramones

HEY! HO! LEGO!

I’ve been waiting on the Punk Rocker to be released in series 4 of LEGO’s Collectible Minifigures for these awesome LEGO electric guitars and to complete my idea for recreating the legendary Ramones in LEGO form.

There’s a full set of photos on my Flickr.

Lego Mad Men

Lego Mad Men

Just another day at Sterling Cooper.

Pretending to myself that I didn’t have enough work to do at the moment, I recently undertook a little Lego side project; to create a set of Lego minifigures based on the TV show Mad Men. I have long been a fan of Lego, particularly the minifigures, and I’m particularly tickled by the range of little Lego suits that are available, so the idea to do something with them came while watching Mad Men, one of my favourite TV shows right now (I’m currently making my way through season 4).

I have never seriously designed and made my own Lego creation before but from seeing the wide range of possibilities from other Lego fans on Flickr, I decided to have a go myself. All the parts I have used are official Lego pieces, I haven’t customised anything in any way.

I’d say I’m most pleased with how Don, Pete and Joan came out and I’m quite chuffed with the little Sterling Cooper set I made to house them.

There’s a full set of photographs on my Flickr.

Please feel free to leave a comment either here or on Flickr.

UPDATE (28/01/11):

Today my Lego Mad Men are on the homepage of Shortlist.com showing up before an interview with Elton John does! That’s just crazy. Here’s the full feature.
